Comment Note: LDS Film numbers marked with *. It is unclear from the LDS Catalogue if this record is included or not. Regrettably, some records were not available at the times of their filming.

Courts.
Mr Justice Day yesterday tried an action brought by Col Velge against Col Vanderzee to recover L70, which the plaintiff alleged that he had advanced to the defendants wife for necessaries. It was stated that when the defendant and his wife were separated, the plaintiff, who was the defendants brother-in-law, advanced to L50 to pay out an execution put in for a butcher's bill; but as he was unable to prove that the money was laid out but for the purpose for which it was lent, judgement was given for the defendant.

Mr Vandenzer
To the Editor of the Pall Mall Gazette.
Dear Sir,
As I see you copied in your paper of the second inst., an extract (an officer mauled by a lion) from Cape papers regarding an accident that my son met with while shooting lions in East Africa, it may be of interest to remove the anxiety of his friends if you will publish the fact that I received a wire from the Governor at Natal today, in reply to a message I sent yesterday, that my son, Lieutenant J. H. Vandenzer, is reported by the doctor at Durban as completely convalescent, and leaves for England by the Guelph on the fourth of October. This is the second time my son's life has been in danger when out shooting, as two years ago he was charged by a tigress in India, and only succeeded in killing the animal when 2 or 3 yards off him, the blood being on the muzzle of the rifle. My son is a very keen sportsman, and has an iron nerve. His regiment is the 3rd Hyderabad Contingent Infantry.
Yours faithfully,
F. H. Vandenzer, Colonel.
