The Reported Massacre.
From a telegram received from the Indian Viceroy dated December 20, 1885, which reports a number of British have been murdered.
Rangoon: The disturbance in the Pegu district has increased, Phongyee leader of the rioters is claiming the British have appointed him Governor of Pengu. He marches through the country with a golden umbrella . . . . . many villages have been looted and burned . . . . . The troops at Pegu have been reinforced, and are now commanded by Colonel Vanderzee of the 5th Madras Native Infantry. . . . . . The Viceroy will not visit Burma, at least this season . . . . .
