Milles was the name of the Manor house at Stisted & had a Court Baron, the Mansion House was a half mile South East from the Church of Stistead. The manor was part of the manor of Stanstead Hall in Halstead, and extended into Stistead & Pattiswick. in old Court Rolls it is stiled the hamlet of Stistead & had a leet & Constable but long since it was united to Halstead

1616 Aug 5: John Allston, Lestrange Alston, both yeomen of Sible Hedingham, and others, did at Sible Hedingham, riotously assembled with staves and pitchforks, and broke into a close owned by Thomas Biggs, assaulted William Harker and Walter Priestwood, and stole "2 cockes of pease" worth 10/-

1616 Aug 10:Walter Priestwood, tailor of Castle Hedingham, to keep the peace towards John Alston.

1616 Sept: It was found at the Sessions that on the 5th Aug the above had committed an unlawful act.

1617 Aug 10: John Taule to keep the peace towards John Allston yeoman of Sible Hedingham. Also the said John Allston to keep the peace towards Walter Priestwood.

1617 Sept 1: William Priestwood of Castle Hedingham struck Lestrange Alston on the arm at Castle Hedingham. Also John Taule, weaver of Sible Hedingham, struck Lestrange Alston and 2 or 3 days later also struck his brother Matthew Allston.

WILL JOHN ALSTON OF STISTED. Gent.
8th September 1658.
To my son John all my lands called Colurds, Wrights & Nottalls in occupation of Joseph Roote and Richard Gawrode in Sible Hemingham.
To my wife Johanne for life the profits of the rest of the lands and tenements towards the education of my three daughters Mary Johanne and Elizabeth, and to pay them L100 each at their ages of 21 years.
Should my wife die before that time, then my son John to pay my said daughters, and also L100 each more at their ages of 24 years.
To my said John after his mothers decease all my lands and tenements in Toppesfield, Sible Hemingham and Weathersfield.
Rest of my goods to my wife my executrix.
Witnesses: Henry Alston, Elizabeth Alston.
Proved London 24th November 1658 by Johanna Alston, relict.
