Jacob was received into the church at Hadleigh 18 Sep 1760

He was articled to his uncle Samuel Alston Attorney at Nayland the following is an extract from the diary of the Practice in 1778 before he died:

Delivered to Mr Dawson Osbourne Notice to Quit Possession of
Mr John Corders house in Stoke at Michaelmas Day next.

Delivered to Mr Samuel Hudson of Dedham notice signed by Dr Ellerton
dated 23rd instant for payment of principle sum of L400 & int on mortgage of both
? Hall upon 1st Jan next.
