Martha CRABB of Wethersfield ESS [5349]

   Another name for Martha was Mary STOCK (ALSTONIANA).

  General Notes:

A search of the Edwardstone Registers at Bury reveals a burial 3 Mar 1728 Martha wife of John Alston this conflicts with the MI below.

On an Altar tomb in Edwardstone is the following "Here lieth the body of Martha the wife of John Alston of this Parish Farmer who departed this life 20 Sept 1728 aged 75. There is no burial entry in the Edwardstone Register?

2003 researched Wethersfield register at ERO very damaged with damp, also Transcription ref T/R 55/1 1640's - 1660's no sign of a Stock family.

It is uncertain as to whether this is the correct name, the children attributed to Martha by Cresswell from an old damaged pedigree (pg 371 Alstoniana) do not fit when compared to the IGI and comments by Dr E L Fenn ( pg 357 Alstoniana). They more comfortably fit with the mothers name as Mary. Mary Stock or like cannot be traced on the IGI to fit.

  Research Notes:

Cresswell shows a marriage date for John & Mary 24 Mar 1682 but no source has been found Alstoniana Pg 391.

Susan Perrett writes "On a visit to Salt Lake City in May 2006 I checked the Edwardstone Marriage registers but could not find an entry for this date for this marriage - or any other date"
Susan Perrett shows a date c1689 reference Gt Waldingfield registers.

Where Cresswell got his entry "Martha Stock of Wethersfield co. Essex" on Pg 79 is unknown and uncorroborated 2011

This baptism was found by Mary Terbrack 2017 and shows Crabb as the surname. It has been suggested as Martha's surname but a Wethersfield marriage Martha Crabb to John Dace 9 Jun 1681 below creates doubt.
