General Notes:
Thomas was of Kirby (NFK?) and Boxford, He had issue. His portrait hung at Alston Court Nayland and was gifted in 2003 by E N A Hadwen (nee Fenn) to Christchurch Mansion Ipswich with the other paintings of the family by Coyte. It is inscribed on the back "Thomas Alston of Kirkby (Kirkly SFK?) and Boxford b1693 d 1774 Portrait from Alston Court Nayland. Beeston Coyte C1752" sighted by E L Fenn 2001. Portrait now at Christchurch Mansion Ipswich SFK. 2004.
It had been assumed his father was one John Alston married to Martha Stock?.
A Thomas Alston is mentioned in an Abstract of Nayland Town Land ownership between 1331 and 1748. Thomas was not a name used by later Alston family's in Nayland.
Electoral Register for Boxford. Election for the Knights of the Shire 30 Aug 1727 Thomas Alston of Boxford - voted for Sir William Barker Bart, and Sir Jermyn Davers Bart. (Both Tory Members of the House of Commons)
"Thomas Alston of Boxford in Suffolk Uncle of Samuel Alston attorney at Nayland in Suffolk died on Sunday morning the 12th day of Jun 1774 about 5 of the clock of the morning, aged 81 years and was buried in the vault in Edwardstone churchyard." Samuel Alstons Latin book page 62.
