Dear Mr Holme,
Thank you for your letter. I apologise for the delay in answering you but Christnas is a busy time, and the weather has added to it all.
There is a memorial tablet behind my stall which reads:"IN LOVING MEMORY OF ROBERT HOLME M.A., FELLOW OF CORPUS CHRISTI COLLEGE, CAMBRIDqE WHO DIED 13th.Dec.1893. HE WAS FOR NINE YEARS VICAR OF CREWKERNE AND DURING HIS INCUMBENCY THIS CHURCH WAS RESTORED".
Another tablet records that the Communion Rails were renewed in his memory by Parishioners. These rails were replaced by my predecessor about fifteen years ago,though we still have photographs of the rails in question.
I saw Mr Walter Clark, a former Cemetery Superintendent,who was 82 this Christmas. He is still active and was a choirboy at your grandfather's funeral. He tells me that Mr Holme was a Naval Chaplain before coming to Crewkerne and that he married the daughter of Canon Lyon of Sherborne Abbey. He remembers six sons and one daughter: Frank, Leonard, Garnet, Walter (Master at Harrow and married Miss Ruth Rivington, Ashlands House ,Crewkerne). Commander Hugh Maurice RN (Ordained and died at Swell in 1955), and Elsie (an actress). He thinks that they are all dead now. Walter Clark has a photograph at his home of a St Michael's Guild,which includes Mr.Holme. He says that Mr. Holme was known at least by the Choirboys,as "Five and twenty minutes" as he invariably preached for that length of time.

I an wondering if you are any relation to Thea Holme, the actress who was a great success at the old Oxford Playhouse when I was up before the war - or a Reggie Holme,New College,193?..?
