Gladys was a strong well liked practicle woman whose Melbourne family had strong links to the sea, she needed to be strong as her Julius sisters-in-law could be a handful!
Gladys and Herbert were generous hosts in the Elworthy tradition, some years ago the writer and webmaster of this family history site was asked by Peter Elworthy (Sir) if he had seen the early Craigmore visitors books, he had not. They proved to be a unique photographic record, Gladys was a keen photographer and photographed her visitors on each visit, no matter how often, then entered the picture with a caption. The writers father, Harry Fenn [33] a bachelor for many years appears on page after page without it seems wearing out his hostess's hospitality.

Glady's will was filed for probate Timaru 7 May 1964.

Gladys married Herbert ELWORTHY [2058] [MRIN: 61], son of Edward ELWORTHY [633] and Sarah Maria SHORROCK [2057], in Sep 1905 in Melbourne Aust. (Herbert ELWORTHY [2058] was born in 1878 in Pareora South Canterbury NZ, died on 9 Sep 1948 in Timaru N.Z. and was cremated in Linwood Cemetery Christchurch.). The cause of his death was cancer.
