bullet  General Notes:

Wedding in London.
South Canterbury Bride
Borthwick - Elworthy.
London July 28.
A wedding of New Zealand interest took place on July 26 at St Paul's Knightsbridge, one of the most beautiful churches in London. The bridegroom was Mr William Jason Maxwell Borthwick, elder son of the Hon William and Mrs Borthwick, of The Manor Farm Brancaster, Norfolk, and 14 Wilton Crescent.
The bride was Miss Elizabeth Cleveland Elworthy, fourth daughter of Mr and Mrs Herbert Elworthy, Craigmore, South Canterbury. The full choir was in attendance and the ceremony was performed by the Rev E A C Hamilton, the vicar. Vases of Madonna lilies were on the altar, and outside the chancel screen were enormous vases, each on a tall pedestal, arranged with flowers in shades of gold and flame.
The bridal party was met at the West door by scarlet cassocked choristers, who headed the procession. In the absence of Mr Elworthy, the bride was given away by her uncle, Mr S Williamson, of Clifton Park, South Devon. An unusual Victorian gown of cream duchesse silk, with long, full skirt forming a short train, was worn. This dress, with its low off the shoulder line, a deep berthe of old lace and a frilling of similar lace edging the short sleeves, had been worn by her mother on her wedding day. A halo of pleated net held her enveloping veil of embroidered net which had been worn by her grandmother and also by two of her sisters on their wedding day's. A sheaf of white roses was carried.
Miss Valerie and Miss Margaret Borthwick, sisters of the bridegroom, and Miss Janet Bendyshe, niece of the bride were in attendance. They wore frocks of a rich pearl cream satin, slashed with flame hued satin, toning with the flame coloured leaves that formed a bandeaux. Each carried a bouquet of white roses. Mr Walter Hazell cousin of the bridegroom was best man.
Following the ceremony came the reception at 23 Knightsbridge where Mrs Elworthy, and the Hon W Borthwick, with Mrs Borthwick, received the guests. The toast of the afternoon was proposed by Commander G H Dennistoun. Later the young couple left by motorcar for Devonshire and Cornwall. Their future home will be in London
