Edward was named after the rector of Bedhampton, the Rev Edward Tew. He succeeded his father as Rector of Farlington & Terwick. He rebuilt the Rectory and Church largely at his own cost. The advowson remains with Edward's descendant, in the 21st-century.
As a boy he can recall seeing Lord Nelson's body being brought back from Trafalgar aboard the Victory on December 2, 1805

Richards, Edward Tew, s. Griffith, of Farlington, Hampshire, clerk, Corpus Christi College, matric 30 January 1816, aged 18; BA 1819 MA 1822, Fellow 1822 - 24. Rector and patron of Farlington Hampshire 1826, until his death 17 March 1887. Attended Eton.
Oxford University Alumna.

The names Mountain & Alder Edward used for two of his boys were from two local clergyman friends of the family, they were possibly godfathers?

Edward was a follower of the Oxford Movement, also known as the Tractarians and had close connections with some of the leading members.

The living of Farlington was a lucrative one and Edward owned other land in Hampshire and Blaen Golau Farm Llanogwad Wales, his estate was valued in excess of L23,000.
