Ernst Anton Maria von Marillac - St. Julien is geboren op 16-06-1835 in Bad Mariënberg (D), zoon van Theodore Paul Ernest, Count von Marillac - St. Julien en Maria Elisabetha Ermen. Hij is gedoopt op 09-07-1835 in Bad Mariënberg (D). Ernst Anton Maria is overleden omstreeks 1915, ongeveer 80 jaar oud.
His birth record was extracted by the LDS and listed in the IGI.
A.Holtzhausen wrote: "Additives, such as wheat, maize and chopped prickly-pear leaves were scarce and expensive. In 1860 E. de Marillac began experimenting with imported lucerne seed. The crop flourished in the limey irrigable soil of the Little Karoo river-flats. So too did ostriches. The protein and karotein-rich lucerne stimulated plumage growth. Under irrigation lucerne production was so successful that three times more ostriches could be carried on these local river-flats than other less fortunate districts." 1876. Economic slump reported by Standard Bank on 21 August:-
So far as the Cape Colony is concerned no great changes marked its progress until near the close of the half year. Public works have been progressing, the money expended thereon being much the same as during the previous half year. The Imports and Exports of the Colony have however, fallen off considerably, and hence there has been some reduction in its material wealth but though the losses sustained have in many cases been severe, we are glad to observe that the larger houses in which we are interested, with a very few exceptions, shew no signs of weakness. The only firm which has succumbed, having large transactions with this Bank, is that of E. de Marillac of Mossel Bay, and it is satisfactory to be able to report that there is a fair prospect of our coming out without loss. . . . .
