JEKYLL v. ALSTON. Bill, 12 February 1692/3, by Nicholas Jekyll of Hedingham Castle, co. Essex, gent., vu. Robert Alston of Hedingham Sible, gent. Complainant and one Jeremiah Fish, clerk, since deceased, were empowered by the will of Griffogon Barnardiston to sell a certain messuage and land in Lamarsh, co. Essex, and an agreement was made in December 1691 to sell the same to the defendant, with the hangings in the great parlour, and the shelves in the closet. A conveyance was not made immediately, but about Christmas after the above said articles were signed, Alston requested room in the house to lodge himself, a man and a maid, and leave to sow corn, &c., &c. All this was granted, but Alston now refuses to accept the conveyances which complainant is ready to execute. Mitford. 348/206. 1692/3. Alstoniana Pg 212
JEKILL v. ALSTON. Bill, [5 Wm. and Mary] by Nicholas Jekyll of Hedingham Castle, co. Essex, v. Robert Alston of Hedingham Sible. This is apparantly a copy (or abstract) of the bill in Jekill v. Alston (Mitford 348/206 ((r. v.), with the answer of Robert Alston attached. In his answer Alston says he was to pay ;L500 for the premises together with the fine due on the conveyance of the copyhold of the Lord of the manor of Heaney. Defendant has been kept out of the premises on one pretext and another, and the complainant has incurred great expenses to settle some doubts as to the title, &c., &c., and seeks to reimburse himself at the defendant's expense, &c. Reynardson. 268/56. 1693.
