A correspondent writes:
the death of Mr E. Constable Alston who was for 30 years instructor at the Royal College of Art, will be felt as a personal loss by countless students who worked under him in the School of Painting. During that time he was at the college his devotion to the interests of the students never failed, and his kindness and friendship will always be remembered with gratitude by those who were taught by him. An artist of keen sensibility, whose personal interests were always sacrificed to those of his students, he possessed in a marked degree qualities that endeared him to all that knew him.
