ALSTON v COLMAN & others.
Bill 20 April 1670, by John Alston of Woodbridge, co. Suffolk, gent., son and heir and executor of Edward Alston, gent. decd. v Edmund Colman the elder, and others (viz, Thomas Sidney, Arden Gibson and Robert Cocke.)
The said Edward Alston deed. was seised of a capital messuage etc. in the parish of St. Laurence, Ipswich ; and on complainants marriage with Dorothy, his now wife promised to leave him an estate worth L500. The defendant Colman is an attorney, and has got various deeds into his possession ; and confederates (to defraud complainant) with other persons, some of whom have married complainant's sisters.

ALSTON v. COLMAN.
The answer, undated of Edmund Colman, the elder, gent., Thomas Wright, Thomas Sidney and Arden Gibson, gent, to the bill of John Alston, complainant.
Defendants believe Edward Alston, decd., was seised of a messuage as in the bill alleged, but of the yearly
value of L10 and no more, and of no other tenements.
They know nothing of any articles of agreement made upon complainant's marriage.
They believe that the said Edward assigned to his daughter Martha, as her portion, a forfeited mortgage for L100 that he held from the defendant Sidney. In the same year, viz. 1665, the defendant,
Wright gave a bond to said Alston's daughter Barbary, for the payment of L100. Arden Gibson says about L12
being due to him from the said Alston, he demanded the same, and Alston gave him L7 and left in his hands a Turkey carpet and a table, to remain with him till he should demand the same, which he never did ; this defendant has married one of the daughters of the said Edward.
A schedule is annexed, of all deeds and writings left by Edward Alston, deed., father of the complainant, in the custody of the said Edmund Colman ; except such deeds as belong to the premises in St. Lawrence parish Ipswich, heretofore mortgaged and forfeited to the said Edmund Colman, among which deeds are
(I) An indenture of feoffment of the manor of Lovetofts, 26th March 1658/9, between Edward Alston and EustaceSmith.
(2) A bill of sale under the hand and seal of Robert Wilkenson unto Edward Alston of one thirty second of the shipp called the John & Elizabeth of Ipswich, dated 1 May 1662.
