MOTHER AND SON DIE IN SMASH. TRAGEDY ON HOLIDAY TRIP CASINO. Friday. 8 Others Hurt When Car Drops 50ft. Over Bank A MOTHER and her infant son were killed and her daughter seriously injured when a motor car crashed 50ft. over a steep embankment on the Richmond Range, near Mallanganee. this afternoon. The car was driven by Mr. Roy Newlands, grazier, of Alroy station, Yetman, husband of the dead woman. He and four others of his children and a nephew and niece were admitted to Casino Hospital suffering from abrasions. The party was on its way to Yamba for a holiday. , The victims were: - KILLED Mrs. Eva Newlands (35). Douglas Newlands (2), her son. INJURED Roy Newlands (41), husband of Mrs. Newlands, not serious. Ruth Newlands (11), daughter, compound fracture of the skull; con- dition critical. Jean Newlands (12), daughter. Alice Newlands (8), daughter. Bruce and Roy Newlands (5), twin sons. Dorothy Newlands (17), niece. Wilfred Newlands (14), nephew. Dorothy and Wilfred Newlands are children of Mr. Victor Newlands, postmaster at Bonshaw centre, about 50 miles from Yetman. When half way down the range on a sharp turn the car, which was not travelling fast, left the road, plunged over a drop of 50ft., turned over twice, and landed with its wheels in the air. All the occupants were thrown out. Mrs. Newlands was killed instantly. Douglas Newlands was dead when the Casino ambulance arrived; he had received a compound fracture of the skull and a large wound over the temple. The car was smashed to pieces.
