Archibald joined Queensland Railways 12 Aug 1912 as a cleaner at Alpha, working at Blackall, Rockhampton, Maryborough, Charleville, and Roma. It was there he met and married his wife.
He became a fireman in 1924 then engine driver. Retiring in 1952 to Burnett Heads then Wynnum, he drove cane trains in the Proserpine area.

Served WWI 14 Jan 1916 to 10 May 1919. In action in France as an ambulance driver.
AIF Reg No 1743-1746 23065.
Rank Ambulance Driver.
Unit 3rd D.A.C.
Enlisted 14 Jan 1916.
Returned to Australia 10 May 1919.

About 1964 Archie and Evelyn were living at Burnett Heads Queensland when they lost there home by fire including all their family photos.

2. Archibald Armstrong Julius: Railway Employment Record, 1912-1952, Queensland.
Archibald's employment records document a progressive decline in his ability to meet his employers requirements. After returning from service in WWI he rejoined Queensland Railways and over the years until his dismissal in 1952 because of the drink, he was punished for several failures of duty.
It may be charitable to suggest that after serving his Country in France as an Ambulance driver in WWI he, like many ex-servicemen, carried the scars into the remainder of his life.
