Dorking and Leatherhead Advertiser 12 June 1915

MILITARY OFFICER'S WEDDING AT CUCKFIELD.
LIEUT. JULIUS & MISS MOURILYAN.
Glorious weather favoured the nuptials of second Lieutenant Arthur Dudley Julius and Miss Marie Louise Mourilyan at the Parish Church of the Holy Trinity, Cuckfield, on Wednesday afternoon, and the happy occasion drew a large gathering to the precincts of the ancient edifice to witness the arrival and departure of the wedding party.
The bridegroom, who belongs to the 11th Battalion of the Essex Regiment, is the elder son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Onslow Julius, of Kingsholme, Earlswood Common, Surrey (late of Ham Common, in the same county), and the bride is the elder daughter of Deputy-Inspector-General Edward P. Mourilyan, R.N., and Mrs. Mourilyan, of Brent Eleigh, Haywards Heath. The ceremony was of a quiet character, but the Church was charmingly decorated with white and pink spirae lilies, palms being grouped by the chancel screen. During the assemblage of the guests Mr. T. E. P. Attewell, organist of the church, rendered Elgar's "Salut d'Amour" and Spinney's " Berceuse," and at the conclusion of these the congregation rose at the entry of
THE BRIDAL PROCESSION.
This was headed by the boys' choir, who led the singing of the hymn " Lead us, Heavenly Father, lead us," and after the officiating clergy the Rev. R. FISHER, Vicar of Cuckfield, and the Rev. HUGH A. HAGGARD, Vicar of Molash, Kent. Deputy-Inspector General Mourilyan escorted his daughter, subsequently giving her away. A tiny bridesmaid and page were in attendance. Miss Mourilyan was tastefully attired in pale pink silk, veiled with ivory ninon, and had a tulle veil, with wreath of myrtle and orange blossom. For ornaments she wore diamond earrings and a diamond pendant, and her bouquet was composed of Madame Abel Chatenay roses. Miss Cynthia Mourilyan, who acted as bridesmaid to her sister, came in a white muslin frock, trimmed with lace and insertion, and a lace hat worn over pink and embellished with satin roses and pink ribbon, pink sash and pink shoes and stockings completing the costume. From the bridegroom the youthful bridesmaid received a pearl heart ornament and chain, and her bouquet consisted of pink Maryland roses. Master Herbert Binny cousin of the bride), acting as page, wore a white suit, with soft white blouse, pink tie and Maryland rosebud. His gift from the bridegroom took the form of a pearl and diamond tie pin.
THE BRIDE'S MOTHER,
Mrs. Mourilyan, came in a blue taffeta gown with Medici lace collar, and a black tulle and jet hat, trimmed with a pink rose. Her shower bouquet was of pink carnations. The bridegroom's mother, Mrs. Julius, looked most effective in her silver grey charmeuse dress, with which was worn a black and white hat. Mrs John Binoy, grandmother, was present in black silk crepon, with soft lace collar and vest, and black toque trimmed with lilac and roses. w be noted that pink was the prevailing colour of the wedding, whilst the appearance of the bridegroom and his best man (his brother, Second Lieutenant Cecil W. Julius, 3rd East Lancashire Regiment), in khaki gave the gathering a military touch. The service, which was fully choral, included the psalm
"God be merciful unto us and bless us," and the hymns "0 Perfect Love all Human Thought transcending" and "May the Grace of Christ our Saviour."
THE VICAR OF CUCKFIELD
delivered an address of character appropriate both to the occasion and the stirring period. Lieutenant and Mrs. A. Dudley Julius left the church to the strains of Mendelssohn's "Wedding March" and amid the merry ringing of the bells, and motored away to Haywards Heath, followed by the remainder of the bridal party. Military men now stationed at Cuckfield formed a guard of honour at the lychgate, from which there was a stretch of carpet to the tower door. Mrs. Mourilyan held a reception in the garden at Brent Eleigh, and the newly wedded couple later left for their honeymoon, which is being spent up the river, Mrs Julius going away in a muslin dress with mauve flowers, deep yellow sash, and large silk-crowned black tulle hat trimmed with a yellow rose. Among the many choice presents were the following :-Bridegroom to Bride, diamond ring. Bride to Bridegroom, signet ring. Bride's father to Bride, diamond pendant. Bride's mother to Bride, fitted suit case. Bridegroom's parents to Bride, diamond earrings. L Bridegroom's parents to Bridegroom, cheque and pearl studs. Bride's parents to Bridegroom, fitted despatch box. Colonel and Officers of 11th Battalion Essex Regiment, silver cigar box.
