William more usually known as Will/Willie spent much of his childhood in Italy and was educated in Lausanne, and Heidelberg University, where he took a music degree and trained to be an opera singer.
Will farmed Claremont which adjoined Home Station, Argyll and Dunrobin stations in Southland NZ

William married Ethel Mary ELWORTHY [547] [MRIN: 60], daughter of Edward ELWORTHY [633] and Sarah Maria SHORROCK [2057], in Feb 1900 in St Mary Timaru. (Ethel Mary ELWORTHY [547] was born in 1876 and died in 1974.)
