bullet  General Notes:

The Evening Standard, 5 March 1912
An important distinction has come the way of a Palmerston boy, J.D.R.Munro who at the age of eighteen, has just left the High School, where he was a scholar for six years. Young Munro who is a son of Mr J.S.Munro, of the Manawatu Auctioneering Company recently won the Reid-Stobo (Presby) Scholarship of £25 per annum, and has now added to his honours a Senior National Scholarship of £50 per annum, and university fees. He will relinquish the Reid-Stobo Scholarship and take up his residence in Wellington, in order to attend Victoria College and prosecute his studies for the ministry. During his High School career he won several special prizes for essays, including the Cohen Shield and his work generally has been such as to auger happily for his future.

Private 22838 2nd Bn., Otago Regiment, NZEF. No known grave. Commemorated on Caterpillar Valley (New Zealand) Memorial, Somme, France
