JOHNSON - On June 6 1944 at his residence 20 Crawford Rd., Arthur Linford dearly beloved husband of Anna Elizabeth Johnson and loved father of Lionel, Allie, Cyril, Les and Cliff, aged 69 years.

JOHNSON. The friends of the late Arthur Linford Johnson are invited to attend his Funeral which will leave his late residence, 20 Crawford Rd, Tomorrow (Thursday) June 8 1944, at conclusion of a service commencing at 2.30pm for the Karori Cemetery. Robert H.Wilson and Sons Ltd. 164 Adelaide Rd.

Obituary
Mr A. L. Johnson
The death occurred suddenly in Wellington last week of Mr Arthur Linford Johnson, who was well known in business and sporting circles.
Mr Johnson, who was born in Wellington 69 years ago, was for many years associated with the brick and pipe industry, being managing director of Herbert Hill and Co. Limited. As a sportsman Mr Johnson was greatly interested in trotting. He was a vice president of the Wellington Trotting Club, of which he had been a member since its inception in 1917. Among the horses which ran under his colours were Holly Boy, Logan Park, Morrison, and Pageant. He was also a member of the Wellington Racing Club. In his younger days Mr Johnson was an oarsman, being a member of the Star Boating Club. A skilful bowler, he was for many years a highly popular member of the Wellington Bowling Club. Golf also claimed his enthusiastic interest, and he was one of the best-known members of the Miramar Golf Club. He was a member of the Masonic Fraternity, having been initiated in New Zealand Pacific Lodge No.2 in 1911, and he joined Brooklyn Royal Arch Chapter No.24 in 1913. Held in high esteem by a wide circle of friends, Mr Johnson's genial personality made him a popular figure amongst the members of the Central Club, the Wellington Commercial Travellers Club, the Savage Club, and the Masonic Club (Auckland).
Mr Johnson married Ann, the eldest daughter of the late Mr Herbert Hill, of Wellington, and he is survived by Mrs Johnson, a daughter, Miss Alice Johnson, and four sons, Messrs. Lionel, Cyril, Leslie, and Cliff Johnson.

1. Arthur Linford Johnson: Will 16 Jun 1934 Probate 1944.
THIS IS THE LAST WILL, AND TESTAMENT of me ARTHUR LINFORD JOHNSON of the City of Wellington in the Dominion of New Zealand Gentleman
1. I REVOKE all former Wills
2. I APPOINT my friends GEORGE LAUCHLAN Assistant Manager of the Electricity Department of the, Wellington City Corporation HAROLD ERNEST TAYLOR Company Manager and WILLIAM PERRY Solicitor all of the City of Wellington (hereinafter called "my Trustees") Executors and Trustees of this my Will
3. AFTER payment of my just debts and funeral and testamentary expenses I GIVE DEVISE AND BEQUEATH all the residue of my real and personal property of whatsoever kind and wheresoever situate or over which I have any power of disposition unto my Trustees upon and subject to the trusts declarations and conditions hereinafter set forth
4. I DECLARE that my Trustees shall stand possessed of all the said property UPON TRUST to sell call in and Convert into money such part or parts of my estate and property as shall not consist of money with power in theirs absolute discretion to postpone such sale calling-in and conversion for so long as they shall think fit
and I DECLARE that no sale cf any part of such property shall be made unless all my Trustees agree in writing thereto AND shall stand possessed of the unrealised estate and property or the sale proceeds thereof upon the following trusts:
(a) To pay to my dear wife Ann Elizabeth Johnson an annuity of Six hundred and twenty four pounds (£624
per annum during her life such annuity to commence as from the date of my death and to be payable by equal calendar monthly payments of Fifty two pounds (£52.) each on the firat day of each and every month with a proportionate payment for any portion of a month AND. I DECLARE that such annuity shall be a first charge upon the income and capital of my estate
(b) I EMPOWER my Trustees in their discretion to set apart such part of my real and personal estate or any, investments representing the same for the purpose of answering the said annuity and should the income from, the said property or investments be insufficient to answer the said annuity then I empower and direct my Trustees to have recourse to the capital of my estates for the purpose of making up any deficiency
(c) Subject to payment of the annuity aforesaid to divide the net annual income from my estate amongst my wife and children in equal shares such share to be payable, to my wife notwithstanding the payment to her of such annuity as aforesaid AND I DIRECT that such division of income be made as soon after the preparation of the annual accounts of my estate as my Trustees shall in their absolute discretion think fit
(d) Upon the death of my wife UPON TRUST for all my children in equal shares. PROVIDED THAT if any child of mine shall die in my lifetime leaving issue who shall survive me and who being male shall attain the age of twentyone years or being female shall attain that age or marry under that age such issue shall take and if more than one equally between them the share which their his or her parent would have taken of and in my residuary estate if such parent had lived to attain a vested interest
7. I DIRECT that my Trustees may invest any moneys which may come into their hands under the trusts of this my Will in the names of my Trustees in or upon mortage of freehold lands in the Dominion of New Zealand or in any the public stocks or funds or Government securities of the. United Kingdom or of the Dominion of New Zealand or in or upon the debentures stocks or securities of any Municipal Corporation the said Dominion or in the stocks or shares of any of the Banks now trading in the Dominion of New Zealand or by depositing the same in any Bank or building or investment company with power to my Trustees at their discretion to vary or transpose such investment into or for others of any nature hereinafter authorised I EXPRESSLY AUTHORISE my Trustees to permit any part of my real and personal estate and particularly
shares in companies to remain for such period as they shall in their absolute discretion think fit in their existing state of investment at the time of my death AND upon or in connection with the capitalisation of the profits of any company in which I may hold shares or any similar scheme or arrangement I AUTHORISE my Trustees to apply for and accept shares in such company for the purpose of taking advantage of any such scheme or arrangement whether the shares so taken shall be wholly or partly paid up
WITNESSES:

I DECLARE that my Trustees may during the suspension of the sale or conversion of my freehold or leasehold lands or other property demise, lease or bail all and singular my said freehold or leasehold lands or personal property for any term of years not exceeding twentyone years at the rent that can be reasonably obtained therefor and may manage cultivate clear drain repair pull down rebuild reinstate a and in any respect improve the same and generally may act inconnection the management and super-intendence of my said real or personal property as they may think fit AND for any purposes connected with the administration of my trust estates my Trustees may raise money upon mortgage of any real or personal property or any part or parts thereof and either by way of overdraft secured or unsecured with any Bank or otherwise at such rates of interest for such periods and upon such terms and conditions as to my Trustees shall seem most advantageous AND may repay or re-arrange any mortgages or other securities existing over any part of my property at the date of my death upon such terms and condition as to my Trustees shall seem most advantageous AND my Trustees may exercise in respect of such real or personal property or any part or parts thereof all and every the powers to improve and develop and deal with the same as if they were the absolute owners thereof it being my intent that my Trustees shall have the fullest powers to develop improve and deal.

AND I DECLARE that the net annual produce arising from the unconverted part of my estate whether real or
personal and whether of permanent character or leasehold or wasting character shall be applied in the same manner as if the same were income arising from the proceeds of the conversion of my estate hereinbefore referred to as my final residuary estate
7. I DECLARE that my Trustees shall have the fullest and most unrestricted powers of carrying on any
business which may enter upon during my life and employing and continuing to employ my capital or any part thereof therein without being liable for losses
8. I EMPOWER my Trustees to purchase or otherwise acquire lands orchattels which in their opinion shall be necessary or expedient to complete any part or parts of my property and to exchange any lands or chattels for other lands or chattels upon such terms and conditions, as my Trustees may think fit
9. MY Trustees may from time to time and as may be deemed expedient decide and determine what part of my estate (and especially of the moneys from time to time coming to their hands) is capital and what part income and every such decision and determination of my Trustees shall be final and binding on all persons interested or, concerned in my estate
10. MY Trustees may pay any moneys to which any minor shall be entitled under this my Will to the guardian or, guardians of such minor or to any person or persons on behalf of such minor without being liable or responsible to see to the application thereof or any part thereof
11. I DECLARE that my Trustees may in addition to any other provision in that behalf conferred upon them apply the whole or any part as they shall think fit of the annual income of the share or portion to which any infant or other person shall for the time being be entitled whether vested expectant or presumptive under the trusts hereinbefore declared for or towards the maintenance or. education of such infant either directly or by paying the same for such purpose to his or her guardian or guardians without seeing to the application thereof AND I further declare that my Trustees may raise any part or parts not exceeding one half part of the then expectant presumptive or vested share or portion of any infant or other person, under the trusts hereinbefore declared and apply the same for his or her advancement in life or benefit
12. I AUTHORISE my Trustees to appoint such managers clerks accountants agents and servants in and about the administration and management of my trust estate and affairs as my Trustees shall think fit at such salary commission or remuneration as my Trustees may think fit
I DECLARE that if any of my Trustees shall die or shall leave New Zealand or desire to be discharged from . all or any of the trusts or powers reposed in them or conferred upon them or refuses or is unfit to act therein or is incapable of so acting then the other Trustees for the time being of this my Will shall elect and appoint some , fit person to be a Trustee in the place of the first mentioned Trustees and thereupon such Trustees shall take such steps and exercise such powers and authorities whether conferred upon them by "The Trustee Act 1908" or otherwise to have the person so elected and appointed duly ocnstituted a Trustee
14. I DECLARE that my Trustee the said William Perry or any other Trustee of this my Will being a solicitor shall notwithstanding his acceptance of the Trusteeship be allowed all professional and other charges for his time and trouble which if employed as solicitor to my Trustees not being himself a Trustee he would be entitled to make.
IN WITNESS whereof I have to thls my Will contained on this and the five preceding pages of paper subscribed my name this 19th day of June nine hundred and thirty four.

THIS IS A CODICIL TO THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT bearing date the 16th day of June One thousand nine hundred and thirty-four (1934) of me ARTHUR LINFORD JOHNSON of the City of Wellington in the Dominion of New Zealand Gentleman I APPOINT GWEN GWYN THOMAS of Wellington Accountant to be an Executor and Trustee of my said Will in the place and stead of GEORGE LAUCHLAN who has died since the making of my said Will AND in all other respects I hereby confirm my said Will
