Heronhill House 1865 proved to be a fruitful year for JT Rochead in Hawick, as he was commissioned by George Wilson to build Heronhill House. George was Hawick's first Provost and owner of the Wilson & Glenny mills. The Ladylaw Mills at Langlands (Roughheugh), started production in 1876 on the site of the former Wilson & Armstrong's business. The partnership between George Wilson and James Glenny (his nephew), became one of the largest tweed manufacturers in the South of Scotland during the early part of the 20th century. In 1959 a large fire decimated the main building. Heronhill House was built to an Italianate design. During and after WWII, it was used as a private girls school which moved from St. Helen's in Bridge of Allan. It also saw use by knitwear companies Anne Howard, Lyle and Scott and John Spencer, after modern extensions on the ground Along with the adjoining estate, it was purchased by the Town Council for a housing development. Most of the land was cleared and bungalows built there. Heronhill Crescent, a loop on the grounds of the old Heronhill estate, was built in 1948 - some of the Cruden homes were rebuilt in 1983. The house itself was in a poor condition and the upper floor was destroyed by fire long before its eventual demolition in 2005. Heronhill Gate Lodge still survives at 152 Weensland Road, being extended in the mid-20th century. This C-listed Italianate building is notbale for its prominent ornamental stacks.
