Charles Frederick MILLS [17646]

  General Notes:

Charles was a sealer in his youth, then became a celebrated whaleboat captain although always complaining of seasickness. He left it for the land and farmed at Rosebrook Port Fairy where he died.

Charles Mills attended a Masonic Ball at Point Fairy, and on the following morning set out with several of his men in a wagon to collect posts for his farm. He became sleepy and tired during the journey and slept on the floor of the wagon. On his return to the farm he complained of a slight sunstroke and his wife summoned a medical practitioner. His condition was not considered to be serious, and his sudden collapse and death, from sunstroke, was unexpected.

Charles married Olivia WILLIAMS [17686] [MRIN: 6386], daughter of Charles WILLIAMS [17688] and Ann LUCAS [17687], on 6 Nov 1837 in Launceston Tasmania. (Olivia WILLIAMS [17686] was born on 4 Jun 1820 in Launceston Tasmania and died on 23 Oct 1905 in Narracan Thorpedale South Victoria.)
