Mary Ann Martha ALLYN [16793]

Mary is said to have been of courtly Spanish blood.

She is recorded in "The Life and Times of John Brabyn" by Betty McGrath 1995, as giving birth to her first child on the battlefields of Flanders the family then returned to England where she gave birth to her daughter in London about June 1795. With her husband and children she then travelled by coach to Bristol and then by sea to Cork Cove Ireland where on 9 August 1795 they embarked on the Marquis Cornwallis for Australia. Breaking the voyage for a short stop in Cape Town they arrived the following February, Mary was the only free woman on board. Adding to the privation and difficulty of this long voyage was the horror of a mutiny by the Irish prisoners being transported, which was violently put down.
Shortly after the family's arrival in Sydney Cove they left on 24 March 1796 for Sydney Bay Norfolk Island, Mary's health broke down and on 29 April 1796 she died. She was buried in Norfolk Island's first cemetery overlooking Turtle Bay, later renamed Emily Bay. The headstone has subsequently been destroyed.

Mary had a relationship with Capt John BRABYN [14458] [MRIN: 5136], son of John BRABYN [17534] and Joanna JAGO [17535], on 17 Jun 1782 in Probus CON. (Capt John BRABYN [14458] was born on 6 Aug 1758 in Pelynt CON, died on 1 Aug 1835 in York Lodge Windsor NSW and was buried in St Matthew Windsor NSW.)
