John was aged 7 when he joined the armed survey vessel H.M's "Lady Nelson" as boy first class on 24-8-1801, and discharged on 28-10-1801. He was again on the "Lady Nelson" when it entered Port Phillip Bay in 1802.
He was thought to have been lost at sea c1806 although no official record exists of his disappearance.
