Harriet Liveing (nee Harrold) to her daughter Julia 6 Mar 1829.
"Poor Uncle Edward has been dangerously ill - with inflammation in his kidneys and confined bowels - his agonies were almost beyond human endurance - it affected his senses and was at times last? I expect these agonies could not last long many coercive means were means (sic) were used and it pleased God mercifully to grant a blessing on them - for the extreme danger was over before they could get Mr Ashbury from Enfield to him - (a medical friend of my Brothers) the pains came on in the night - there was but a hair's breath between them, and death. I wrote to him by the following post and requested him to write again as I was anxious to know that he continued better - and yesterday morning received an answer that he continues better but the action in his heart is not yet as it should be - I need not have written so much, had I considered I could send his former letter, which I shall do now - in his last he recommend reading Wilberforce's book on a Practical View of Prevailing Religious Systems xcc he adds that it is an admirable" book. . . . .
