Richard entered St Pauls School in 1775 and was a Campden Exibitioner in 1781. He was admitted ads Sizar to Trinity College Cambridge on 25th October 1780, where he became a Scholar in 1784 and obtained B.A.(Senior Optine) in 1785. He became M.A. in 1802. He was appointed Rector of Throcking, Nr Buntingford, Hertfordshire, Englandin 1786 and held the living until his death. From 1803 to 1811 he was absent from his living (where he presumably employed a curate-in-charge) while acting as Chaplin to the Honourable East India Company in the Residency of Calcutta, India. ( He arrived in Bengal, India on 16th May 1803). He was also a minor Canon of Ely and was on the foundation of Winchester, Hampshire, England as a descendant of William of Wykeham. rector

Richard married Sarah GILDER [1268] [MRIN: 395], daughter of Rev Jonathan GILDER [1260] and Mary BRAZIER [1261], on 18 Aug 1787 in Aspeden HRT. (Sarah GILDER [1268] was born in 1762, baptised on 9 Jan 1768 in Layston HRT and died on 5 Jul 1809 in Fateghurr India.)
