Letter to Charles Giles from his granny, Sarah Allen
Nov 1836
My dear Charles,
I thank you for your kind letter, how pleased we should have been to have seen Frank and his friend at Burnham if all had gone well - I am very glad to hear that the Bazar (sic) went of (sic) so gay and so much money colected (sic), it must be very pleasing to Mr Clarke and your papa must be delighted with his loyal finnir. I think you have been very gay at Frome since I left. I hope to see you at Christmas we have a bed at any time, there can be no excuse as I hear you have got a poney. I am very sorry to hear that your Mamma is no better. Your uncle thinks the Porter he has at present will not do for her, if she can drink Porter, I hope she will have some at Frome, and place it to my account. I have sent Sophias purse. I hope she will like it, the silk was to large to Nott (sic) on a small mesh. I have sent you a book, the load of sermons writen by a very good man, I hope you will read them to your Mamma and sisters every Sunday. Poor James has been very ill since your Mama left us, but for this last week he has been so much better I think he will hold out the winter - not knowing your birthday will you please to put in the other figure in your book. I have sent a handkerchief, if your Mamma thinks it worth dyeing it will do for you this winter.
And now pleas (sic) to give my love to all and say I am very well

P.S. I have sent the money for the silk, rings and tassels in the purse.
