Scope and Content Philip Newton, esq., Captain in East Essex Regiment of Militia, proved in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury (will dated 22 October 1800) Bequeaths L10 to executors of will to bury body; L200 to Revd. Harvey Taylor of Beccles, Suffolk, according to the will of his late wife Lucy Newton; L3 to Ann, wife of William Withers of London, watchmaker; L10 to Mary, wife of Revd. Mr Page of Wrinckfield near Beccles, Suffolk; L50 to child or among children of his late sister Ann Wood; gold watch to nephew William Newton; all military clothes and accoutrements to be sold to pay funeral and other expenses. Residue of estate to be divided between brother Thomas Newton and nephews and nieces, William Newton, Mary Bundock, Susan Paticure, Susan Newton and Ann wife of James Alston Charles Whaley and James Alston appointed executors
