Christopher (Kit) O'TOOLE [9941]

  General Notes:

Christopher O'Toole (always known as Kit) left school at an early age and started his working life as a telegraph messenger earning four pence a week at Clontarf Post Office, walking to work each day from central Dublin. He soon tired of this and joined the British Royal Army Medical Corps on the 9th July 1913.
He served with distinction in WWI and when the War ended, and after six years' service, Kit elected to be discharged in Dar es Salaam, Tanganyika Territory in East Africa. His sister Lily (Eileen) was living in nearby Kenya at the time so after his discharge Kit moved to Kenya and worked for the Ford Motor Company. It was in Kenya he met his wife.
In 1935 the famiy returned to Ireland but in 1937 returned to Kenya where Kit bought a business that became known as Car & General Equipment Company
