THE WILL of EDWARD ALSTON of LONDON
Dated 14 Dec 1592
The will of Edward Alston Citizen and Iremonger of London 19th Dec. 1592 (44 Eliz.) of the Parish of Christ Church, Newgate, London.
I desire that my debts being paid and my funeral performed, my goods shall be divided into three equal parts, one part I give to my wife Elinor, the 2nd part to my daughter Joyce and a posthumous child if such should be
born to me, the 3d part to be reserved to pay the legacies hereafter bequeathed.
I remit to my father Richard Alston the debts owing to me, except L20 which he shall pay to such of my sister's children as have most need thereof.
I remit the debts owing to me by my brother Robt. Alston.
I give to my Cosen James Alston and his wife Joyce a ring each worth 20/-
To my Cosen Will. Alston a ring worth 10/-
To my Uncle Thomas Mydleton and his wife each a ring of gold, price 20/-
To my Uncle Frauncis Pember and his wife the same
To my father-in-law Walter Wordell and his wife do.
To my Uncle Deavereux Pember a ring price 10/-
To Leonard Crosse Dyer my best suit of apparel being silk grograine, to his wife 5/- for a ring-and to his 2 daughters L10 each
To my neighbour Will. Compton Apothecary a good paire of new worsted stockings
I give to my Uncle Wade and his wife 10/- each for rings
The residue of my property I give to my wife whom I make sole executrix
I appoint my loving friends Fran. Pember, James Alston, and Tho. Midleton Overseers of this my will.

According to custom of cittie of London goods in three parts, one to wief Elenor, one to daughter Joyce and such child as wief goeth with, each at 21, and third part for legacies viz To father Richard Alstone £22 he oweth he paying £20 to my systers children at his discretion. To brother Robert Alston debt he oweth. To Cosen James Alston and his wief Joyce gould ringes of 20s. To Cosen William Alston ditto of 10s. To vncle Thomas Mydleton and Aunte his wief, uncle Frauncis Pember and his wief, Father in law Walter Wordell and his wief ditto of 20s. To vncle Devereux Pember ditto 10s. To Leonard Crosse Dyer best suite (being silck grograine) to his wife 5s for a ringe and his two daughters £10 each at 21 or marriage. To neighbour William Compton Apothecary a good paire of newe worsted stockinges. To my vncle Wade and my Aunte his wief ringes of 10s. Rest to wief executrix.
