Whereas it appeareth unto us whose hands and seals are hereunto set two of His Majesty's Justices of the Peace for the said Burrough (quoniam [?]¹) upon the complaint of the churchwardens and overseers of the poor of the parish of Dovercourt in the libty (sic) of the said burrough that Joseph Alston and Mary his wife were (by virtue of a certificate of the place of their last legal settlement under the hands and seals of the churchwardens and overseers of the poor of the parish of Norton in the county of Suffolk duly allowed bearing date the 27th day of September Anno Domini 1716 permitted to reside and inhabit in the said parish of Dovercourt so long as they should keep themselves from being chargeable to the same parish.
And that the said Joseph Alston is now since freed and left the said Mary his wife and one child who are become chargeable to the said parish of Dovercourt. And whereas it appeareth unto us the said Justices by the before recited certificate that the place of the last legal settlement of the said Joseph Alston and Mary is at the said parish of Norton in the said county of Suffolk
These are therefore in His Majesty's name to command you and every of you that you, some or one of you, forthwith upon receipt hereof do convey the said Mary the wife of the said Joseph Alston together with her said child from the said parish of Dovercourt in the libty (sic) of the said burrough the next and directest way to the said parish of Norton in the said county of Suffolk and them there deliver (together with this report) unto the churchwardens and overseers of the poor of the said parish of Norton who are hereby required to provide for them according to law and hereof fail not etc.
Given under our hands and sealed the 29th day of October, Anno Domini 1716 in the third year of the reign of His Majesty King George etc.
