MAJOR HUBERT FREDERIC LING MC TD (1895-1900) He was born on 4 March 1885 and was a Pembroke Scholar at the College. He qualified as a solicitor in June 1909. During WW1 he joined in August 1914 as Lieut, G Coy 4th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment. He was promoted to Captain in March 1915 and was wounded on 18 August 1916. He served in 11th (Pioneer) Service Battalion of the Durham Light Infantry and was awarded the Military Cross on 1 January 1917 serving in France "For distinguished service in the field". He was also mentioned in dispatches. He was made a Major in April 1918. After the war he joined the Territorial Army and was awarded the Territorial Decoration. He was a past President of the Framlingham and District branch of the British Legion. As a solicitor he worked for FG Ling in Framlingham, was Clerk to the Justices at Framlingham Petty Sessional Divisional and a member of Framlingham Town Council. He died on 4 February 1957 aged 75 and was buried in Framlingham Cemetery. Ref: Old Framlinghamian http://www.oldframlinghamian.com/
