This family is based on this Will.
Will of Robert Barwell of Witham, Essex, England 1730. Will of Robert Barwell, butcher, dated 20th September, 1730: I Robert Barwell of Witham in the County of Essex Butcher being sick in Body but of sound mind and memory (praised be God) do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament. To my daughter Elizabeth Barwell all that messuage or tenement stable and half the chamber over the same and all other outhouses, with the use of the pump, situate in Witham. To my daughter Martha Barwell all that messuage now divided into four tenements which I lately purchased of Daniel Britton and Dorcas his wife, situate at Chipping Hill in Witham, and all the goods and household stuff in my dwelling house that are mine. To my son Robert Barwell for his lifetime all that messuage or tenement and outhouses, situate in Witham and now in my own occupation on condition that Robert shall yearly during the natural life of my son Samuel Barwell pay to him the sum of three pounds by two half yearly payments. From and after that the said messuage or tenement unto Alice Alston and Barwell Alston children of my daughter Hannah Alston and also to Thomas Barwell and Elizabeth Barwell son and daughter of my son Thomas Barwell. To my daughter Hannah Alston that messuage or tenement situate at Chipping Hill in Witham and now in the occupation of my son Robert Barwell. Daughter Hannah Alston ten pounds; son Samuel Barwell pounds; daughter in law Elizabeth Barwell widow five pounds; grandson Thomas Barwell ten pounds; granddaughter Elizabeth Barwell five pounds; To all the children of my son Robert Barwell five pounds apiece to be paid to them at their several ages of one and twenty years; to my son Robert my horse; residue to my two daughters Elizabeth Barwell and Martha Barwell part and share alike.
