An Absentee Rector. After a succession of resident rectors, Philip Alston (1735) was probably the last to have been almost entirely absent from the parish. By an agreement of 14th December 1737, he leased the parsonage house, with the glebe land and tythes, to Joseph Danvers (Lord of Swithland Manor) for twenty-one years at £20 per year. Danvers agreed to maintain the parsonage in repair, and to nominate, appoint, and pay a resident curate to live there.
