Thomas sixth Baron Mowbray was created Earl of Nottingham and Earl Marshal with confirmation of the office to his heirs male; Governor of Calais, Justice of Chester and Flintshire for life created Duke of Norfolk 1396 ; K.G. He was the Duke of Norfolk who along with Henry Duke of Hereford (afterwards Henry IV.) was banished on account of their famous duel by Richard II. The Duke married Elizabeth daughter of John Lord Strange of Blackmere who d. s. p. and secondly Lady Elizabeth Fitzalan daughter of Richard Earl of Arundel, sister and coheir of Thomas Earl of Arundel and widow of William de Montacute. She was of the blood royal by descent from Lady Eleanor Plantagenet daughter of Henry Earl of Lancaster aforesaid. Alstoniana Pg 310
