  General Notes:

Gloria left home at 18 to train as a nurse, she qualified as a double certificated registered nurse, working mainly in country hospitals, where Gloria recalls one had to be resourceful. She had many "hairy experiences" including rat plagues, electric generator failures etc. She worked for a time at Texas (Queensland) before moving to Moruya (NSW) where they all expected her to be an American (from Texas).
Promoted she served as Matron at two further hospitals until she retired on the 25 March 1980 then Director of Nursing (Matron) at McLean Retirement Village in Inverell NSW.

Edward Fenn had the very great pleasure to meet Gloria and her girls in 2005, nicer people you could not hope to meet.

Gloria had a boy in 1945 named George, her brother Harry adopted him and brought him up. See Gloria's letters below.

Dear Edward
Pleased you had such a successful trip over here. I was so happy to have met you and thoroughly enjoyed talking family history.
I have read all data you sent me and have made several corrections.
I noted George is recorded as Harry's son. So I discussed it with him and he would like it to remain as such because as he said Harry was a wonderful dad and I'm happy with that, Harry did a very good job.
Also I have added a few more names of latest additions to tree.
Have just returned from 2 weeks at Strathseven Julie drove me up George and Maxine brought back as far as Singleton were Julie Matus. Maxine son and grandson (1st and new) live.
They put on 1 of their famous golden oldie parties for which they are famous. All 22 of us had a really jolly happy time. And an old friend of Harry's had his 90th birthday so we really celebrated. He is about 2 months older than Harry. Wishing you and yours a very happy Christmas and New Year.

Dear Edward,
I hope you are all both well and busy with family tree.
Re George and my status yes I think Harry as his adopted father and me as his mother.
We had a very nasty scare in May George was diagnosed with cancer of prostate gland. He had immediate surgery Tamworth plus anti-cancer injection which caused a few side-effects for a time. However last week he saw his doctor who is very pleased, no sign of cancer present at this point in time but he has to have further blood tests and see Dr in February.
We are all very relieved, we are still in grip of drought, water becoming a major problem. This
all well here although I have had a few problems, children brought home a nasty bug, and I got it shook me up but am improving.
Girls busy preparing for Christmas tree and nativity all in place. We wish you a very happy Christmas and New Year.

Gloria married Daniel Thomas Kevin LOWREY [4476] [MRIN: 1539], son of John Joseph LOWREY [7409] and Maude Mary MANNIX [7410], on 18 May 1957 in The Valley Brisbane Aust. (Daniel Thomas Kevin LOWREY [4476] was born on 16 Sep 1914, died on 21 Apr 2000 in Nepean Hospital and was buried in Pinegrove Michinbury NSW (ashes).)
