Bill, 16 May 1665, by Sir Edward Alston of East Barnet, Kt., v. Sir Thomas Hampson and Dame Mary his wife,
Nicholas Glynn and Gertrude his wife, and William Alston.
One Anthony Denny of Orleigh in the parish of Buckland Brewer, Devon, Esq. deceased, was seised of the manors of Orleigh, Playstowe &c. co. Devon, and died about 23 years since leaving all the premises to descend to his daughters and co-heirs, viz., the defendants Mary and Gertrude, and Elizabeth, afterwards wife of William Alston, orator's eldest son. Which Elizabeth, in consideration of a projected marriage between herself and the said William, did by indenture of August 1656 settle her third upon Orator and his heirs, with the condition that if L2500 were paid Orator on 28 October 1657, and another L1000 within 5 years after the marriage, the deed should then be void. Orator settled a jointure in Northants upon the said Elizabeth. In Michaelmas term 1655 Sir Thomas Hampson and others, sued his wife's two sisters under an alleged settlement of the manors made 23 February 1654/5.
Orator has never received full assurance of the said conveyance, free from equity of redemption unless the said
L3500 be paid.
Elizabeth Alston died about 4 June 1664, leaving issue only 3 daughters viz. Gertrude, Hester and Elizabeth, who are all since dead.
Defendants will neither pay the sum aforesaid to Orator, nor assure his title.

Elizabeth married William ALSTON of Strixton NTH [3077] [MRIN: 2404], son of Sir Edward ALSTON Knt of Strixton [3074] and Esther (Hester) ASHCOMBE [3075], on 21 Aug 1656 in St Bride Fleet St LND. (William ALSTON of Strixton NTH [3077] was born about 1632, died in 1690 and was buried in Strixton NTH.)
