Reminiscences on John by Judith McKenzie. Thomas Lynford (Uncle John), an infrequent visitor with wife May and small son John. He a tall man, who did not relate easily to a young niece. 2005
Thomas's son John, remembers his father bringing home the sports cup, books on mathmatics, surveying log books etc from his father (Thomas L M Barker), of interest to son John who was an engineers. He writes in 2018 I have a full copy of my father's military record from Australia. I found following his ups and downs a bit rugged. He is on a memorial website where I was able to place poppy alongside his name. He enlisted and was invalided back to Australia. He recovered and then reenlisted. That is why there is a Thomas Lynford BARKER and a Thomas Lyneord BARKER with the misspelling of Lynford. It also showed that the family lived in 140 Elizabeth St before moving to Whites Line West. There is still a house at No 140. Doris, I think it was wrote to the Australian Army wondering where Dad was because he was a bit slack writing home. She gave an address 160 Thorndon Quay. She must have been living away from home. It is now a parking lot. Dad was known as Tom in the City Council but was called Jack everywhere else. The John or Jonnie I only ever heard within the context of his brothers and sisters.
