Alderman of London 1642/1660, Warden 1638, 1640. Citizen & Grocer, gave L500 to the rebuiding of St Michael Stow.

Sir John as Sheriff of London, was committed to the Tower during the Commonwealth for refusing to publish an Act abolishing Royalty, he was then created a Baronet at the Restoration.

Will 1671 PCC 79 Duke.
