Engineer Gets Four Months for Bigamy.
William E F Steggall engineer, belonging to Kent, pleaded guilty at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today to having bigamously married a Leith woman in 1917, and was sentenced to four months imprisonment.
An agent said the first marriage took place in 1911 but it was an unfortunate one, the wife repeatedly deserting her home.
On the outbreak of war Steggall joined the Sportsman Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers, and while in Edinburgh in 1916 he met the second woman, and married her in 1917.
The prosecutor said that he kept visiting his first wife up to December of last year. There were 3 children of the first marriage and one child by the second marriage.
