Joseph William BAILEY [27088]

On my maternal grandmother's side there is Joseph William Bailey. He was born in 1845 at Port Louis, Mauritius. Sometime about 1872 he moved to Leicester, England. The family story is that his father was press-ganged into the navy but jumped ship in Mauritius where he made his money in sugar. Records in Mauritius are almost non-existent so I can only presume that Joseph inherited a lot of money, sold the business and left the island for England. His passport and census records describe his profession as "Gentleman". He must have had siblings in Mauritius because he paid a visit in 1902 with his son, William, and daughter, Eva.
