bullet  General Notes:

St Alfege Church, Greenwich.
One of the most important early Huguenot settlers in this area was Adrian de Savaria, Vicar of Lewisham between 1595 and 1610. He was one of the first group of eminent Continental reformers who came to Canterbury at the request of Cranmer.
De Savaria or Savary as the family was more commonly called came from the region of Valenciennes and he gathered a group of families around him from the same area.
No memorials to the de Savery family exist in the church as they were not replaced when the church was restored after WWII, but there is a family vault in the crypt.
