Benjamin was a Member of Parliament for Cirencester 1713-1727, Gloucester 16 February 1728-1754 and Monmouth Boroughs 1754 5 November 1767.

By his two wives Benjamin had 36 children. His daughter Elizabeth married William Prowett of Adderbury OXF, and was mother of Rev John Prowett, Rector of Catefield NFK and Gt Tey ESS.
