JUDGE HAMILTON
Sydney August 12.
Judge Hugh Montgomery Hamilton died yesterday at his home, Tomabil, Strathfield, Judge Hamilton, who was born at Parramatta, and was in his 77th year, had a distinguished academic record at Geneva, Edinburgh, and English universities. He played for Scotland in International Rugby football in 1874-75. He was called to the bar at the Inner Temple in 1878. He was counsel to the Treasury on the Northern Circuit in England from 1884. As acting District Court judge in New South Wales, he served continuously from 1900 until 1914, when he was appointed permanently, and only retired from the bench in 1924. He was a prominent Freemason and was a vice president of the Royal Agricultural Society of New South Wales, and President of the Kennel Association.
He was joint author with Mr G C Addison of "The Crimes Act of 1900"
