1863 Mr. Thomas Fitzarthur Smythe to be Clerk in Charge of Land Orders in the Colonial Secretary's Office.

1866 Thomas made a claim for compensation for loss of office in the Queensland Immigration Dept.

1867 Thomas is recorded as an Officer 1st class in the office of the Registrar General.

Hugh Rose, G.C.B, K.S.I., Commander of the Forces in Ireland, to Alecia Maria Eliza Smythe, of Drumcree-house, Westmeath, eldest daughter and co-heiress of the late Robert Smythe, J.P., D.L., and cousin of Fitzarthur Smythe, of the Queensland Civil Service.
