Maxwell (Max) Elliston was a POW under the Japanese forces in Burma for 3½ years in WWII.
Max was in 2/40 Battalion and captured in Timor by overwhelming Japanese forces.
Many POW's of the Japanese suffered shocking treatment it was a black period of history.
Maxwell married Margaret Frances CHAMBERS M.B.E. [35463] [MRIN: 12839] on 21 Dec 1946 in Hobart Tasmania. (Margaret Frances CHAMBERS M.B.E. [35463] was born on 7 Jun 1925 and died on 2 May 2021.)
