Reception to Miss Batten
Miss Jean Batten was the guest oI honour at a reception given by members of the South Canterbury Womens Club at Timaru yesterday afternoon. The club rooms were decorated with bowls of bronze chrysanthemums, japonica, and vivid red berries, and tall sprays of winter jasmine and sweet corn were arranged in blue china vases. Miss Batten, who was accompanied by her mother, was welcomed by Mrs E. J. LeCren, president of the club, who presented her with a bouquet of violets. A short musical programme was given, songs being sung by Mrs P Watts Rule and Mrs A. C. Mclnnes, and a pianoforte duet was played by Mrs N. D. Mangos and Miss Barnadette Mangos. Several songs were sung by members of the Glee Club. Among those present were Mrs E J Le Cren (president), Mesdames . . . . . Susan Torlesse, . . . . .
