James Tait/Tate arrived on the Hibernia 10 May 1819, he had been sentenced to 14 years transportation. James continued to be in trouble with the authorities, being convicted in 1833 and sentenced to a further 7 years transportation. He finally received his Ticket of Leave in 1842 when he and his family left Tasmania for Port Fairy Victoria.

James married Jennyfer Ann BRABYN [16794] [MRIN: 6018], daughter of Capt John BRABYN [14458] and Mary Ann Martha ALLYN [16793], on 13 Jun 1845 in Belfast Port Fairy Victoria AUST. (Jennyfer Ann BRABYN [16794] was born about Jun 1795 in London, died on 1 Jan 1871 in Ellerslie nr Mortlake Victoria AUST and was buried on 3 Jan 1871 in Port Fairy Victoria.)
