bullet  General Notes:

THE DEATH OF MR. FENN.
An enquiry into the cause of the death of Mr. William Edward Eenn, who died at the Private Hospital, Wakefield-street, on Thursday, was held at the Oakfield Hotel by the acting city coroner (Mr. G. H. Aylife) on Friday morning. Mr T E.(G) Fenn, brother of the deceased, last saw his brother alive on Wednesday, when he seemed to be very ill. Early in the day advised him to go home. Subsequently he went out saying The best thing I can do is to go home. He took his hat and stick and walked out. At about 3 o'clock on the same afternoon witness received word that his brother, had met with an accident at the Pirie-street Exchange Hastened thither and found the deceased in an unconcious state, being tended by Dr. Giles. He, however, soon recovered consciousness, and upon the doctor's advice he was taken to the Private Hospital, Wakefield-street, in a cab. He remarked on the way that he would soon be better and with but little help walked to the bedroom. Dr. Giles said that on Wednesday afternoon he was called to see the deceased at tbe Pirie-street Exchange. Found him to be suffering from what appeared to be a trifling wound to the back of the head. He was conscious and said he had had a fall. Ordered him to be taken to the hospital, and at about 4 o'clock next morning found him to be in a critical conditioa. Consulted Dr. Todd as to the desirableness, of performing an operation, but as the sufferer, had changed so much for the worse it was decided that an operation would be useless. Nothing could possibly have saved his life the loss of which was caused by cerebral haemorrage resulting in pressure of the brain from a blood clot. Gerald Mitchell said he, saw the deceased at about 3 o'clock on Wednesday afternoon standing at the head of the stairs at the Pirie-street Exchange. He was trembling and appeared like a person about to have a fit. He began to descend the stairs and having got down part of the way tripped and fell head downwards onto the pavement.
The jury returned a verdict of accidental death.
