1. Parnell Ellis: Will, 1661, Gt Henny ESS. In the name of God Amen.
The 24th day of December in the year of the reign of our sovereign lord Charles II by the Grace of God of England, Scotland, France, and Ireland, etc., 1661, Parnell Sewell of Great Henny, Essex, widow, being well in body and of perfect memory etc., I do make this my last Will and testament as follows.
First I commend my soul into the hands of Almighty God, etc. and my body to the earth, etc. to be decently buried at the discretion of my executors.
Touching my worldly estate, I give and bequeath to John Sewell my eldest son £5 to be paid within 6 months after my death, to Robert Sewell my youngest son £15 to be paid as above, to Parnell Hall wife of Thomas Hall £5, paid as above, more to Robert Sewell the chest of drawers in the parlour with the frame it stands on to be delivered within 3 months of my decease, to Robert Sewell my grandchild son of John £3 to be paid as above, to my grandchild Parnell Garrond £00.20.00 to be paid as above, to Parnell Alston my grandchild £00.20.00 to be paid as above, to my two daughters-in-law the wife of my son Christopher and Dorothy the wife of Robert £00.30.00 each to buy them rings.
Item to the poor of Midlton £00.06.08.
If in case my executors shall be enforced or sued at law or caused to expend any monies by any person/s whatsoever for and about any of my goods and legacies bequested unto them, that such person/s as I have given and bequeathed legacies unto shall allow and abate so much out of their legacy as shall proportion the charge that my executors shall be put unto, and if in case any shall refuse to put in security to my executors it shall and may be lawful for my executors to detain in their hands such legacies as is bequeathed any of them until they have done it that the charge may be borne by all and not by my executors only if any shall happen to be.
Finally all the rest of my goods, cattle, chattels, bills, bonds, household stuff, etc. unbequeathed I do give and bequeath them all unto my two sons-in-law Hamblett Frier in Suffolk and John Woodthorp of . . . . in Essex whom I do nominate and appoint to be executors of this my Will.

Parnell married John SEWELL [11581] [MRIN: 3885], son of John SEWELL [11583] and Ellen JOHNSON [11584], on 9 Jan 1639/40 in Essex. (John SEWELL [11581] was baptised in 1586 in Sudbury SFK, died in 1645 in Gt Henny ESS and was buried in St Mary Gt Henny.)
